Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been inducted as a Paul Harris Fellow, a prestigious recognition for an individual’s outstanding contribution to society and humanity.

The honour was done to the King during the maiden District Conference of Rotary Club International District 9104 in Kumasi hosted at the Golden Bean Hotel on Friday, April 12, 2024.

The prestigious recognition, named after the founder of the Rotary Club International, acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the Rotary community both locally and internationally embodying Rotary’s motto of service above self.

This, the group asserts, His Majesty has exhibited in the past 25 years of his reign on the Golden Stool.

Bestowed on him the honour was the Governor of Rotary District 9104, Mr David Osei Amankwaa Junior who described the Monarch as a “champion of humanity and a repository of wisdom”.

“Today we bestow upon him the Paul Harrison recognition in acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution and his unwavering commitment to service…He has been a visionary leader steering affairs of the Asante Kingdom towards progress and prosperity.”

He also rans through the immense contribution His Majesty has made in education and health, especially for the underprivileged in society.

“His reign has been marked by a steadfast commitment to the welfare of his people, promoting education, health care and economic development. His Majesty has been a staunch advocate for education recognizing it as the cornerstone of societal advancement under his leadership and under his leadership, Asante Kingdom has witnessed significant investment in education, ensuring that the youth have access to quality learning opportunities and empowering helpless individuals to pursue their dreams and contribute meaningfully to society.

“In recognition of his exemplary leadership, profound education to his people and outstanding contribution to society, it is with great pride that I stand on behalf of Rotary International to present Otumfuo Osei Tutu with the Paul Harrison recognition. May his leadership continue to inspire generations to come and may his noble deeds serve as a guide to all who strive to make a difference in life.”

The King was presented with a certificate.

Asantehene graced the maiden district conference of the Rotary Club International District 9104. The District gained autonomy last year and elected its Governor and District Executives the same year.

Present at the event were the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah and the General Commanding Officer of the Central Command, Brig Gen Michael Opoku.

Other dignitaries included Rotary International President Representative, Drew Kessler, the Governor of Rotary District 9104, Mr David Osei Amankwaa Junior and Past Rotary International Director (PRID), Mr. Sam Okudzeto.

Rotary International is a global association championing peace, fighting illiteracy and poverty, helping people get access to clean water and sanitation, fighting diseases such as polio and championing environmental protection.
